“M Flight” The artist of this piece has always been a BMW Motorsport racing fan, so this is where he drew his inspiration for this project. New Year’s Day is a very important holiday in the Japanese culture, and it’s customary to wish your friends and family heartfelt good wishes for a positive and prosperous new year. As an artist of Japanese descent, he is holding onto this tradition by creating this hand-crafted, floating sculpture as a fun BMW memento to celebrate BMW’s rich Motorsport history and to wish all his passionate BMW-enthusiast friends, a happy and prosperous new year.
The three flying origami cranes represent BMW’s early involvement in aviation, and the three colors reflect the original BMW Motorsport racing colors of the 70s, which eventually became the recognizable Tri-color M logo on all of BMW’s modern high-performance vehicles of today. To complete the sculpture, the artist incorporated the iconic Motorsport roundel logo that BMW race teams wore proudly during competition in the 1970s, as a tribute to the glory days when the mighty 3.5 CSL dominated all the racing circuits in Germany and Europe.
